Jane Jacobs Textiles
Jane Jacobs
Jane Jacobs is a Canadian textile artist specializing in natural dyeing and eco-printing. Using foraged plant materials, she transforms silk, cotton, and wool into one-of-a-kind garments and accessories. Her signature pieces, silk scarves imprinted with delicate leaf patterns and oversized Oxford shirts adorned with hand-dyed silk appliques, celebrate the organic beauty of the natural world.
She honed her craft under the guidance of renowned textile artists Irit Dulman, India Flint, Nicola Brown, and Gunnel Hag, mastering techniques such as indigo dyeing, eco-printing, and felting. Now, she shares her expertise by teaching workshops in her home studio and garden, where she invites students to explore the alchemy of natural dyes and fibers.
Before devoting herself to textiles, Jane worked as a registered nurse, a career that deepened her appreciation for care, connection, and the rhythms of life. She also raised four children and is now a devoted grandmother to nine. Family remains at the heart of her creative practice, influencing both her artistry and the way she shares it with others.
Beyond her textile work, she is an active musician, lending her voice to song circles throughout the GTA. Whether through fabric or music, she is drawn to traditions that bring people together, fostering beauty, storytelling, and community.
